Probably saving some time this week by not having constant internet access, but there’s the trade-off of ESPN and the Food Network at the Grandparent’s house. The NBA playoffs have been exciting, I’m just having trouble finding teams to cheer for. I love basketball, but as a Mavericks fan I find it hard to cheer for the Spurs or Lakers. I guess I’m for Garnett and Allen getting rings, but I can’t say I’m confident of their chances at this point…

Here’s what’s interested me this week:

  • Amid all the news about the devastation in Burma and China, because of the scale and the numbers, I’ve found it almost impossible to comprehend. There is a reporter for BBC who was dispatched to China to cover the preparations for the Olympics who has been blogging about his encounters with Chinese affected by the disastrous earthquake. The stories are heartbreaking and moving. Read James Reynold’s China.
  • Among other things, I’m trying to learn about politics in Germany and the European Union. This BBC article is very helpful, explaining the new EU Presidential position and the potential candidates from around Europe.
  • Does God hate the new farm bill?
  • $15 bucks for checking a bag? Good or bad?
  • The underlying xenophobia in South Africa intrigued me during my time there last year. I’ve often wondered what would come of it, it’s hard to hear about it now. God save us from ourselves…
  • I grew up in the suburbs and for the time being live in the suburbs. The suburbs are not inherently evil even though they may be a necessary evil, I just find that they seem to hinder my pursuit of mission. That’s why I was excited to see David Fitch write a great post on Engaging Mission in the Suburbs.
  • What kind of disciples do we need?
  • The Champion’s League final was phenomenal, although another tough defeat for Chelsea.
  • Cognitive Surplus – Interesting because of how I’ve been reading and discussing Web 2.0 and new organizational theory lately. Web 2.0 Cognitive Surplus
  • This is why I’m worried about KG and the Celtics getting their ring.
