I had intended to blog more this week. There are several books in the queue that I want to write about and I haven’t written much on my trip to Germany yet. But, I have been running from God this week (and part of last week too). I’m assured by many that support raising is a difficult process, which I understand, but my naive (or maybe arrogant) tendency is to distance myself in part from good advice and assume the road for me will be easier. Instead of taking some things with a grain of salt I prefer the whole salt lick.
When I run, I often get a number of good things done but that is usually at the expense of those things I need to get done. That’s how this week has gone. I can only pray for grace and strength for tomorrow. The grace to realize I need to turn around and the strength to run back the way I came. I think I’m getting there (I hope).
- An international court for Sports (why do we have these?) overturned a ban imposed by an international athletics association to allow a South African man to compete for a place at the Olympics. What’s the big deal? The man is a double-amputee, read the story here.
- I’m trying to learn how to better pack less. OneBag.com thinks it can teach me.
- I have head more and more about the growing crisis in Zimbabwe from my friends in South Africa lately. These stories are not in the news and seem to be much worse than we thought. Joe Reed, a friend I met in South Africa last year, posts with links to more info and a way to get involved – check it out here. Arthur Stewart also posted more here.
- I’ve got a friend who is spending the weekend in a Palestine, TX prison this weekend. She’s helping with Kairos Prison Ministry, which she’s told me is like a Walk to Emmaus program for inmates. Interesting ministry.
- Eugene Cho continues to blog about the upcoming launch of their organization to fight global poverty – Strategically. While I think it’s a great undertaking and very needed, I also enjoy reading about how they’re setting up this new organization with an eye towards the new organization I get to help set up in Germany. - This is cool website called Issuu, where you can publish your own stuff and has a cool online reader.
- A book I’m looking forward to reading on my list is Bill Kinnon’s A Networked Conspiracy: Social Networks, the Church, and the Power of Collective Intelligence . Bill blogs on media, faith, and leadership here and is one of my regular reads.
- MVP Kobe Bryant’s Lakers broke the trend and won on the road last night to put them in the Western Conference Finals. In 6 out of his last 7 playoff games he’s had at least 30 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists. The other game he was struggling with back trouble and only managed 26 pts. Not bad.
I’m heading to Dallas on Tuesday for two weeks for support raising meetings. I’m hoping I’ll be able to get to a few of those book reviews. Hopefully I’ll stop running the wrong way too.

Tyler,
Thanks for the linkage. Let me know what you think of the book. I’m reading Clay Shirky’s new book, Here Comes Everybody – an important read in this entire conversation.
